Mangaluru, Sep 2: The nationwide bandh called by left leaning unions has begun with a negative note in city as in the early morning of Friday, September 2.
Buses and other vehicles are not seen on roads.
In few places like Kuthar, Suratkal and Urwa store tyre burning incidents have been reported. A KSRTC Airavatha bus was from Bengaluru to Manipal was stoned at Padil. Another KSRTC bus was stoned on K S Rao road in city.
A bus belonging to Nitte University was stoned by unknown persons.
Police and private security provided protection for around 20 buses transporting staff of Infosys IT company.

City market is completely closed. But unloading from trucks was witnessed in some instances.
A few auto rickshaws that were seen in the later went off the roads.
A person named Yashpal who had come from Sirsi to get treatment for leg injury was struggling to reach hospital as no transport was available. An ambulance was called later which took him to the hospital.
A protest was held in front of DC office where all the unions, except BJP supporting union BMS, participated. Congress supporting Intuc also took part. Balakrishna Shetty from CITU criticised the Modi-led central government for the anti-labour policies and demanded minimum wages of Rs 18,000 per month for every worker in India. Union leaders Vasantha Acharya and Sunil Kumar Bajal were present among others.
Udupi report
In Udupi, almost all the shops are closed. Private vehicles and people are seen on roads in reduced numbers. Buses were not seen operating, but a few auto rickshaws and taxis operated.
A small number of protestors held protest at city bus stand. They said more people are going to join them soon. No untoward incidents have been reported.
Kundapur report
It has been peaceful here except a bus plying from Udupi to Bagalkote was stoned by miscreants.
