Bantwal, Sep 3: A person named Okkettur Anand alias Manjalady Anand Gowda, who was running finance business and chit fund, has allegedly cheated a number of people to the tune of Rs 5 crore. It is said that he was running unauthorized chit funds and over 200 families which reposed faith on him are now virtually facing financial crisis.

On Friday, Vittal police arrested two persons after getting complaint that a person had been abducted for recovery of Rs 8 lac. After Kishori, resident of Manjalady, complained to the district superintendent of police on August 31 that her husband, Anand, had been kidnapped by two persons named Ganesh and Rajeev, the police, in an operation conducted on Thursday night at Suratkal, succeeded in rescuing Anand.

The police have now realized that Anand owes lacs of rupees to a large number of people towards financial and chit fund businesses. As he owed Rs 8 lac to Ganesh and Rajeev, and was unwilling to pay them, they had taken him away, it is gathered.

As per information, as pressure from people increased, he also started behaving like insane person and had also got admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru. However, he could not prolong this farce. On Friday, hundreds of people gathered in front of Vittal police station and demanded for Anand's arrest. People who have records for having monetary transactions with him, together filed a complaint of cheating against Anand. But most of the transactions are unauthorized, and Anand and his wife have been asserting that they would not pay the money due whenever approached by people to whom he owes money, it is said.
