Udupi, Oct 6: The last rites of a monkey which was electrocuted were performed religiously here in the office of Adi Udupi forest officer in the leadership of social worker Nithyananda Olakadu and forest officials on Thursday, October 6.

The male monkey was electrocuted when it was trying to cross an electric pole to another, near head post office in city.

Nithyananda Olakadu who received information about this news, called forest officials to the place. Meanwhile a woman also informed the corporation office which sent a worker. The worker put the dead monkey in a sack and took it to Beedinagudde. Nithyananda Olakadu who was anguished with it got the corporation officer bring back the monkey.

Nithyananda kept the dead monkey on a white cloth and kept flowers and Agarbattis on it while beating drum. The local people with reverence kept money near the dead animal.

The monkey was later brought to the office of local forest officer in an ambulance. It was kept on firewood. Ghee was poured on it before setting it on fire.

The collected money will be offered to Mukhyaprana deity and the ashes will be put at Malpe Vadambadeshwara Sea, the people decided after the funeral.

    'Upakara smaraneyali
    pranigale balu melu
kela janare balu keelu" I have not remember the poet. Nothing wrong to respect the dead body of the animal. Even we cremating the dead cow or pet dogs respectfully at our home. Some incidents shows animals are more civilized than humans.

Unmatured minds always goes behind like this tasks. We remember the two human being were paraded nakedly in same udupi ten years back just for dealing in cattle business where no social servants or legal authorities try to stop or intervene at least. The reason is simple extreme emotions for animals over human being.Try to provide more value to human being rather than animals.

Dear Readers, Nithyananda Olakkadu runs an ambulance free of cost for the needy in case of accidents and death. He also helps people who are on roads like people with special needs by admitting them to hospitals. He has used the same ambulance for this purpose. May be with some belief he has done last rites to the monkey. Let us respect that instead of commenting negatively with our own logic. It is also true that he helps many human beings.

    Irony of India
Man carries his dead wife for 12 kms, before some journalists take pity on him and arrange an ambulance. While here, all arrangements are made for a dead animal.

Dear friends, please don't judge and generalize these people with your hate comments . Still lot of people care for nature and animals . whats wrong with treating animal with human touch ? Don't you think they are better than us , where we just sacrifice animals in the name of god during festivals or just kill harmless animals just to fill our stomach ?

Same monkey is made to starve due to deforestation and its source of food is destroyed as cutting of trees takes place on a large scale day by day. When it enters human habitats and find food from coconut trees or banana plantation, it is chased gunned down and killed. Infact, in some areas monkeys hated most by people as it destroys farmers hopes as it eat their crops.

Ridiculous! When alive and while jumping the coconut trees or other on fruit trees the same monkey is chased by sticks or throw stones if not fire loud crackers. Show love when alive.

with all respect to Hanuman,I find this type of treating a dead monkey is too much.Treat a animal as animal ,also not with ambulance to bring, pour ghee to burn.whereas when a Person is dead ,no ambulance is available or not ready to take home his Body ,here dead monkey is brought with ambulance.why Ghee, even oil will do .Flowers to carcass is ok,.why didnt arrange a dinner to conclude?I am sure this will bring more critic .But I find too much is too much.

Are they Joking or performing the rites sincerely/seriously?
I doubt because,In this century everything has become joke to Humans. The more we educate and get educated we just spoil our society and nature and everything that is on our way, somewhere.Instead of building it constructively.

Some years back, in Madhya Pradesh, a monkey was electrocuted like this and they too had the same rituals. Later, they built a temple in it's honour and is named as "Bijlika Hanuman Mandir".
