Kundapur, Oct 7: "We need regional parties in each state. The state can develop only with the presence of regional parties. In this regard, I will fight for the unity of JD(S) party till my last breath,” said former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda.
He was speaking at a news conference in Mahalaxmi Hotel, Kolllur during his visit to Kollur Mookambika temple for a vision of the deity on Friday, October 7. His wife was accompanying him.
“Cauvery water controversy is not recent. It started in 1893. I have participated in it since 1964. The disputes between political parties since then have kept the debate alive. The state government should provide clear information to the court. We should understand that the creation of government at the centre with the support of AIADMK and DMK parties, has kept the problem alive. The people of Karnataka need to strengthen the regional party and solve inter-state disputes,” he added.
“Similarly Mahadayi project and Netravathi-diversion projects are unscientific. Therefore like-minded people should sit together, discuss and take a decision. We should refrain from the outbursts of rage. Development is possible when actions are taken after holding discussions on their pros and cons,” he said.
Speaking about surgical strikes on PoK, he stated that he had not conducted surgical strikes or such other operations when he was the Prime Minister. Such actions should be kept confidential, as their announcements excite people. The concerned governments at least after this, release statements taking into consideration the security and the well-being of the country, he said.
Speaking about 'Jaguar' film produced by his son H D Kumaraswamy in which Nikhil Gowda (Deve Gowda's grandson) is the hero, he stated that it is an excellent film for the family and is just released. “I could watch it only for ten minutes, and I am confident that it will win the hearts of people in the state”, he said.
Senior JDS leaders Sabladi Manjayya Shetty, Srikanth Adiga, Mansoor Ibrahim, Dakshat Shetty, Shalini Shetty Kenchanoor and others were present.
