Indian weightlifters bag historic medals in IWF Worlds


Penang (Malaysia), Oct 22 (IANS): India bagged a historic silver and bronze in the 56kg weight category at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Weightlifting Championships for both boys and girls here on Friday.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga finished second with a lift of 108kg in snatch and 127kg in clean and jerk for a total effort of 235kg to bag the silver medal.

Muthupandi Raja clinched the bronze with an overall lift of 233kg (100+133), according to an Indian Weightlifting Federation release.

Jeremy has improved upon his performance in the selection trials, which was held on September 20 at Patiala, by 7kg.

In 48kg category, Mohini Chavan finished sixth while Jhilli Dalabehera stood ninth.

Sharabani Das finished sixth position in the 44kg weight division.
