Udupi, Jan 3:  The valedictory function of the five-day national workshop on “Ethics and human values in education” organized especially for teachers, was held at MGM College here on Tuesday January 1.

Delivering valedictory address, H Shantharam, administrative officer, Academy of General Education said that students are not taught moral education in schools, thus imposing negative impact on the students, he added.

He further said that the myths and stories of “Panchatantra” that carried reflective and thoughtful moral messages are not being taught to the student. Such stories help to shape the character of the students, Shantharam added.

Earlier people used to take up teaching as a profession but now in the present era most of them opt for teaching only for livelihood, he opined and said that the teachers should love their profession at least after they take up.

He further said that now-a-days teachers complain about the students that the students lack discipline. But if an attempt is made by the teachers regarding the reason for a student to be undisciplined then the problem can be solved easily, he added.

There are many students who were naughty earlier have become good citizens now, he informed.

K K Pai, registrar, Academy of General Education presided over the function. Jayaprakash Mavinakuli, principal, MGM College, welcomed the gathering.

Arun Kumar, principal, MGM Pre University College was present on the occasion.
