Dubai, Jan 3: Daiji Dubai, the forum of Konkani writers in the U.A.E. has geared up to celebrate its 9th anniversary on March 28, 2008 at the Sheiikh Rashid Auditorium in Dubai. The much-acclaimed comedy play by Francis Fernandes Cascia which already had successful shows at various parts of Mumbai and elsewhere in India will form a major part of celebration.

The entertainment segment will be managed by Daiji Rang Mandir, the center for performing arts and a subsidiary of Daiji Dubai. According to the communiqué, it shall comprise of hilarious songs and music by well-known singers and artistes invited to perform from around the Konkani world besides DRM members.

It should be noted that the three well-known Konkani stage stalwarts, Francis Fernandes Cascia, the doyen of Konkani theater both in India and in the gulf; Hemacharya, a stage personality and the convener of Daiji Dubai and Dayan D’Souza an accomplished compere, stage artiste and the convenor of DRM have joined hands to make this play a most memorable event in the gulf. While Hemacharya has been assigned the task of directing the play the process of selecting the right person for the right role is in progress.

During the celebration, the prestigious Daiji Puroskar will be bestowed on senior Konkani writer Eddie Netto. A large number of dignitaries from the U.A.E comprising Daiji Dubai sponsors and the personalities around the Konkani world are expected to be present during the event.

Daiji Dubai came to inception in the year 1999 when five well-known writers, Hemacharya, Melvyn Rodrigues, Dayan D’Souza, Walter Nandalike and Stany Nirude met in Dubai and decided to form a forum to uplift the status of Konkani writers and to strive for the welfare of Konkani language and its people. Whatever has been achieved afterwards is now called a part of Konkani history or a ‘Konkani revolution’ in the gulf.

Many Konkani lovers around the gulf after taking the lead from Daiji Dubai started their own Konkani organizations such as Konknni Kutamb in Bahrain, Konknni Kullvar and Konkan Talent in Kuwait, Borpi Mithr in Oman to name a few. It is a most visible fact that today that people hailing from Konkani region feel proud to speak in their mother language and conduct much of their family functions in Konkani.

www.daijiworld.com - a website which was a vision of founding member Walter Nandalike has converted the whole world into a small global village in the words of Bishop of Mangalore Most Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza. Without doubt, www.daijiworld.com carries along the struggle, pain, celebration, the hope and the vision of every Konkani person in the creation of an innovative, informative and secular global world.

To add to its grace and glamour, the other exclusive Konkani website, konkanipoetry.com - managed by another founding member and an acclaimed poet himself, Melvyn Rodrigues takes Konkani poetry to greater height and prosperity.

Besides launching Daiji Puroskar which was first-of-its-kind in this language, the forum also supports the artistes around the world, irrespective of their language or religion. The forum also supports Konkani journals and publications and spearheads the campaign to provide Konkani language its due recognition at the local and international arena.

Daiji Publications, the most recent product of Daiji Dubai is determined to publish works of prominent writers. While a collection of writings of daiji members, ‘Renver Fullalim Sallkam’ was released last year, the much-acclaimed novel of Stany Nirude “Jikloli Solvonn” will be inaugurated as part of anniversary.
