Mangalore Jan 4: The 63rd session of the national council of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) was held, at the Annapoorneswari Sabhagriha of Adichunchnagiri Mutt, Adichunchanagiri from January 1 to January 3.
It was a four-day convention which included a two-day tour and two-day mind-refreshing debate and discussion session, on the problems faced by the journalists' fraternity. The Nepal Working Journalist Association (NWJA) also participated in this meet.
The Karnataka Working Journalists' Association (KWJA), Bangalore has been hosts this prestigious and auspicious annual since 1990. This is the third time that the Karnataka unit is hosting this mega event. Earlier they were held at centres like Tumkur, Shravana Belagola and Adichunchnagiri are the places where the same event has been held earlier.
"Journalism is the most respectable profession and I always admire the contribution made by journalists in nation-building," lauded the head of Shri Adi Chunchanagiri, Sri Balaganghadharnath Swami, after inaugurating this national meet of journalists.
"India is the land where all religions are equally honoured. We must follow this noble guideline and should help others to safeguard themselves from the evil forces within the country. India is a peace-loving country and we must do all we can to retain the prestige and cultural heritage of the country with our behaviour," he further added.
On the same occasion, union minister for surface transport K H Muniyappa released a special issue of ‘Working Journalists' which is a mouthpiece of IFWJ, New Delhi.
In his speech, Muniyappa said a sense of direction, vision and accurate writing of events by the journalists must guide the country. The writings in media must highlight the problems of even the leasser members of the society and this is a must, in order for an journalist to achieve fulfilment, opined Muniyappa.
IFWJ president Vikram Rao, secretary Premananda Pande, chairman of the reception committee and IFWJ vice president Madan Gowda, president of Mandya zilla panchayat Balakrishna, senior jounrnalist from Karnataka Jayasheela Rao, Karnataka Madhyama Academy secretary Dinesh H.B, Mandya District Working Journalists' Association (MDWJA) president M R.Mattikere Jayaram, president Nagamangala Taluk Working Journalist (NTWJ) C N Manjunath were present on the occasion.
All state presidents who were present on the dais were felicitated by the Swamiji.
