Belagavi, Dec 2: The Karnataka Legislative Assembly has unanimously adopted a resolution seeking prime minister Narendra Modi's intervention to solve the inter-state Mahadayi river dispute, involving Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa on Thursday December 1.

Karnataka’s water resources minister M B Patil, who moved the resolution in the house after a long-hours debate on the issue, said the resolution is being moved in the light of the tribunal's recent suggestion to make efforts to resolve the issue outside the purview of the tribunal.

"The House seeks the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in finding an amicable solution to the problem outside the court," the resolution stated.
The minister, in his reply to the debate, stated that the tribunal is making a suggestion to resolve the issue outside the court-of-law. "This is the right time to seek the intervention of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he said.

Maintaining that the State Government is making all efforts to protect the interests of the people of the state in ensuring its share of water from the Mahadayi basin, the minister said, "We are also open for an out-of-court settlement to the issue."
