Short-term pain will pave way for long-term gains: PM Modi on demonetisation

Dec 8 (DHNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter on Thursday to defend the decision to ban Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes saying that this short-term pain will pave way for long-term gains.

In a series of tweets, Modi highlighted how demonetisation would help curb black money. He said the government’s decision has several gains for farmers, traders, labourers, who are the economic backbone of our nation.

"We also have a historic opportunity to embrace increased cashless payments and integrate latest technology in economic transactions." Modi tweeted.

"I always said that the Government's measure will bring a degree of inconvenience but this short term pain will pave way for long term gains," he added.

He concluded the series of tweets by saluting the people of India for wholeheartedly participating in this ongoing Yagna against corruption, terrorism and black money.

I agree sir, this short term pain would benefit the country in long run. They should ban even new 500 and 2000 Rs note later on once the cashless transaction becomes more popular and settled. People should be able to manage with 10,20,50 and 100 Rs notes only with the help of other forms of transactions. In USA nobody has seen the notes beyond 100$.

Demonetization has hardly any connection with dollar value or exchange rate. BTW, Rupee could become more stronger against dollar later on due to demonetization effect.

Self praising PM Sahab, instead of saying several gains for the farmers, traders and labourers, can you please name out one single GAIN for the above named people. Indeed, labourers lost their job, farmers could not sell their agriculture product and traders close their petty business so millions of poor people are suffering where Gadkaris and Reddys and your corporate friends enjoying by spending in BILLIONS. Is this the Gain you are talking about? ? ? again same Juumla and same Ullu Banaying. Good going PM Sahab till 2019 then Gain hee Gain......

I had an argument with a bank manager ... i wanted to withdraw 25,000 with a self cheque ..manager says weekly limit is 24,000 ..i asked him give it in writing ...he gave me ...next i asked him .. Imagine i owe you 25k ..will you accept a cheque ..he said yes ..and will you transfer the money from my account to your account ? he said yes ..i said then why cant Govt honour my cheque to withdraw my money for myself and has no issues withdrawing my money to pay you ? ..he had no answer ....this is how Govt is fooling in the name of cashless economy ..

@Amith, Udipi - Its not the bank managers fault. Its the government's fault. By labelling it as a secret surgical strike mission, they did not print the 500 notes until after Nov 8. And the printing of the 2000 note started only in October. That's just poor planning, implementation and management.

The bank manager may want to give you as much cash as you want, but there isn't sufficient notes to go around.

We, the honest people of India are the losers in this exercise.
