Bengaluru, Dec 9: Karnataka has warmly welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the validity of the Cauvery River Water Dispute Tribunal’s orders.

The apex court, which heard the petitions from Karnataka and other riparian States challenging the Tribunal’s final award that had decreed the constitution of the Cauvery Monitoring Board and other issues on allocation of waters, upheld constitutional rights to hear the Cauvery river water dispute, adjudicated by the Cauvery River Water Dispute Tribunal

Reacting to the decision of the three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, Karnataka’s Water Resources Minister M B Patil said the decision vindicated the State’s stand on the issue that the Apex Court has the jurisdiction to review the CWDT order.

Maintaining that Karnataka state was accorded a raw deal in adjudicating the dispute, the minister said the final order of the CWDT has several flaws which had gone against the interests of the farmers of the State.

The apex court would be taking up the case on December 15.
