Sullia, Dec 27: The lady teacher of a school at Mugeru in the taluk reportedly led students of the school to a house warming ceremony near the school, and allegedly asked eight students belonging to scheduled caste to stand outside. After complaint was received, block education officer and block resource person visited the school and conducted investigation. As the allegation was prima facie found to be true, the teacher has been suspended by the deputy director of public instruction.

The district Mugera Sangha has filed complaint on this incident at the local police station and the teacher appeared at the sessions court at Mangaluru and obtained bail.

District unit of Dalit Seva Samiti held protest on Monday December 26 in front of the police station here, demanding to arrest the lady teacher of Mugeru Manimajalu school for practising untouchability. President of the Samiti, B K Sesappa Bedrakkad, demanded her immediate arrest as case has been already registered. He also urged action to be taken against the owners of the new house who too were party to the practice of untouchability. He criticized the local MLA for trying to give a decent burial to the case through mutual discussions instead of condemning the incident.

Taluk Samiti president, Umesh Noojary, Puttur taluk Samiti president, Giridhar Naik, Angara Nelyady and several others were present.
