FCRA licences of 20,000 NGOs cancelled

New Delhi, Dec 27 (PTI): Licences of around 20,000 of 33,000 NGOs have been cancelled by the government after they were found to be allegedly violating various provisions of the FCRA, thus barring them from receiving foreign funds.

This was conveyed to Home Minister Rajnath Singh during a review of the Foreigners Division of the Home Ministry here today.

Giving a detailed presentation, Home Ministry officials said after cancellation of FCRA licences of around 20,000 NGOs, only 13,000 NGOs in the country are legally valid now.

The exercise of reviewing the working of the NGOs was started about a year ago and the process is still continuing, official sources said.

Among the 13,000 valid NGOs, around 3,000 have submitted applications for renewal while Ministry of Home Affairs received 2,000 new applications for registration under the FCRA for the first time.

An additional 300 NGOs are currently under prior permission category but not registered under the FCRA.

However, FCRA licences of around 16 NGOs were renewed by the Home Ministry under the "automatic" route and all the cases were reviewed thoroughly and except in two cases, 14 NGOs have been put under the prior permission category while papers of the two NGOs are under examination.

As per FCRA, if an NGO is put under prior permission category, it is barred to receive foreign funding from abroad without taking permission from the Home Ministry.

    Good move.

Congichelas are painting it as an anti-christian move.
Fact is that even Matha Amrithaanandamayi trust is also put under prior permission category.
Some of the funds received by the banned NGOs also might have been used for blowing up the news of church attacks out of proportion!!

Let's see and analyze, if the ban is on the basis of religion or on account of unlawful activities or no compliance.
Let's see is there fair level playing field.
World has become small, there will be reciprocation, all have to take responsibility for all our actions and inaction.
It's only a matter of time.

Good move. Many NGOs receive foreign funding to spread the gospel or Koran, but many more Indian missionaries make periodic trips to foreign countries to solicit donations and bring back hordes of money for the same purpose. They too should be subjected to inquiry as to where they got the money from and for what purpose, if they bring in more than the permitted amounts.

It is a well arranged plan of the anti-Christian BJP Government through blocking the foreign funding of hundreds of NGS which were engaged in humanitarian services for the unwanted and discarded people of the society. Once Arun Jaitly said that these Organizations are converting people.

Let the unwanted human beings may die in the street, who cares? Their tears have reached at the right place for judgment upon the BJP Government. Wait for the economic crisis facing the nation next year.

One of the internationally known humanitarian Organization is the Compassion International, an American Organization which is feeding thousands of unwanted children in India. Its funding was blocked and they had an hearing in front of the U. S. Foreign Relation Committee. How you justify that? Your deity Modi will be faced with many questions from the family of nations in the days to come. The U.N. has already questioned him. Does he think that he is above the law?

Now it is quite clear that BJP wants non BJP parties to be corruption free and curb getting any sort of funding, while BJP party has full license to involve in any corruption and get any sort of funding.
