Mangaluru: Day train to Bengaluru to become reality on March 1

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 20: The Indian Railways had announced that it would operate day train between the city and Bengaluru via Hassan and Mysuru, in 2014. It said finally that it would be fulfilling this promise this year, and the train will begin to chug from March 1 onward.

This train had been sanctioned during the interim railway budget presented in 2014. As per the time table released thereafter, the train was to leave Bengaluru at 8.30 am every day and reach the city at 9.15 pm. Likewise, the train which was o leave the city at 6.30 am, was to leave Bengaluru at 7.30 pm.

After Udupi Railway Ytri Sangha filed writ petition in the high court, having been frustrated at the fact that the railway had failed to meet its promise, the department had been postponing the move. However, after the judge issued a warning, the railways told the high court that the operation of the train would start before March 31, 2017.

In a release, president of the Sangha, R L Dias, noting that the railway officials have announced that the train would commence operations on March 1, termed it as a victory for the initiatives undertaken by the Sangha.

The new train can run via Hassan-Shravanabelagola since the new line is ready. This is the shortest route from Mangalore to Bangalore (340 km). Train can run in less than 10 hrs. Hope the new train to be introduced from March 1 will take this route. There will not be any need to change the engine en route in this new route. Hence travel time will be reduced by at least 90 mts.

All these years , the railway ministers were only doing populist measures and have brought down the Railway ministry with no money left for new trains.
Suresh prabhu rightly said that there will no more new trains announced till the already announced ones are completed.
The best Railway Minister in recent times.

The already announced trains for the heavily networked states like Kerala and Tamil nadu should
be reviewed and alloted to network deficient state like Karnataka. Then only we can sing hosanna
    for Prabhu.

While I would like to thank R. L. Dias for his unending struggle to make the railways comply passenger demands, I would also like to see the train benefits Udupi as well.

As for me, this train seems to be more beneficial for Mysore, than the Coastal region, that too spending minimum 12 hrs. of torture in this snail paced train.

Can anyone suggest how one can reach from Udupi to M'Lore before 6 : 30 AM to board this train....?

    Jai Hind !

It is real good news for people traveling to Mangalore. I request railways to take up double tracking the entire length so that trains can ply without hindrance and one can reach early. Railways can generate huge revenue by this route with the number of people traveling in this route. This route can be extended to Udupi and onward journey to mumbai. It is the karnataka government to see that wherever it is single track they have to purse the railway minister for double track and electrification.

What is the use of such a train which takes more than 12 hours??
People will still prefer to go by night bus which takes only 8 hours. This is in spite of swindling by operators, overcharging during weekends and festivals, etc. In spite of inconvenience of not being able to actually sleep, people travel by sleeper coaches because this is a better alternative than train in terms of timing. Also the point to point service of buses is very useful for those who have to travel long distance from Railway station. This is know to bus operators and they are unscupulously taking advantage by overcharging.

The huge debt that the corrupt cong did in the last 10 years by not paying IRAN for importing crude, has to be paid back.. chaiwala has no option but to pay UPA debt. So price won't come down even if crude comes down

But it is of no use explaining such complex matters to tiny brain chelas who cannot think beyond praising their masters all day.. LOL

Congratulations Udupi Rail Ytri Sangha for your success. The train could have gone to Bangalore via Hussan direct instead of through Mysore thus saving travel time. Also we need one more train to over come the rush and stop this bus lobby sending sacks of notes to the politicians of all the parties.

It is real good news for people traveling to Mangalore. I request railways to speed up double tracking the entire length so that trains can ply without hindrance and making one reach the destination in less than 8 hours. This way, we can kill the bus lobby and mafia which control the entire public to ransom during festive seasons by doubling ticket prices. Also, Railways can generate huge revenue by this route with the number of people traveling in this route. Gradually, the route can be extended to Udupi and along the coastal to Bombay.
