Oman, Jan 31: During the month of December with the beginning of Advent as the festivities of Christmas begin, the houses are lit up with lights, Christmas trees and various decorations. This brings in the spirit of Christmas.
The concept of crib making begun by St Francis of Assisi is very popularly followed in every Mangalurean household. The crib is believed to bring in the experience of the birth of Jesus Christ into the household by mimicking the environment of Bethlehem during Christ's birth.
MCCP keeping up to its tradition, organized the crib competition for all its members. The format of the competition was very simple: creativity, craftsmanship, decoration and originality were given prime importance. Every family had to send in the photograph of their handmade crib to the executive committee members. The deadline for the competition was December 26, 2016.
An overwhelming response of 12 entries was received. Melita Alva- general secretary, Trecilla Menezes- internal auditor and Lynel Lobo– sports secretary of MCCP team and 25 personally visited all the 12 venues where the cribs were registered.
The participants were:
Aslita D’Souza, Cyril Danthi, Francis, Helen Sequeira, Lancy Lobo, Manglurche Komble, Naveen and Suman Mathias, Nikhil and Nihal Noronha, Phiyola Celestine D’Souza, Stany Wilfred Menezes, Walter D’Souza and Abhilash, Frederick Tauro, Norman Corda.
The winners of the competition are:
First place: Lancy Lobo
Seconnd place: Abhilash, Frederick Tauro, Norman Corda
Third place: Manglurche Komble
The prize distribution to the winners will be conducted in the upcoming MCCP events and the winners will be notified regarding the same in advance.
