Bahrain, Feb 22: It is gala time in Bahrain with the grand finale of the “More” Kudlotsava 2008 – Indian Mega Festival at the Indian Club premises with the commencement of the Ladies Throwball Tournament that kicked-off at 9.30 am on Friday February 22.
Six throwball teams with ladies from all walks of life, young and the elderly together with their supporters and fans assembled at the Indian Club grounds that were converted from a cricket pitch to a throwball arena, on a bright sunny day that was just the cards they asked for, to display their throwball skills in a pool knock-out tournament.
The typical Kudlotsava aroma brought in a number of well-wishers, up early in the morning even to have “Kudla” breakfast of wada sambar and Paova-Uppma! There was much fun and camaraderie among all who gathered that gave a typical Kudla family touch to the ongoing show.
The much-awaited mighty Tug-of-war competition for men pitted eleven teams on the field, on a knock-out basis, flexing their muscular power to pull the ropes on either side. It was the turn of the ladies this time to cheer their mighty men to tug the ropes either way! The joy of the men’s hectic pulls on the rope could be reflected in the encouragement and smiles of the ladies around.
Anand Lobo, the main compere along with Girish Iddya and D Ramesh spared no time to encourage and cheer all the participants.
With the ongoing matches the final results for the Ladies throwball and men’s Tug-of-War tournament will be out by evening.
This will be followed by a grand gala cultural programme at the same grounds commencing at 7.00 pm. with 26 artistes specially flown from “Kudla” soil to give typical folklore dances in a three-tier stage set-up, unique-of-its-kind decorated with nature’s bounties specially flown in from “Kudla”. Added attraction will be “Pili” (Tiger) dance of the Kudla belt – a must-to-be scene performance by the men artistes.
Some local dance troupes and singers are also expected to participate to bring in more flavour and nostalgia. All this and more to give a befitting cultural finale for the Kudlotsava 2008! It will be a hectic day of fun for the beholder to remember!
Entrance tickets for the day are priced at BD 1.
