Mangalore: 'Dha Upades' Konkani Biblical Drama Invokes Religious Fervour

Mangalore, Mar 2: 'Dha Upades' (Ten Commandments), a Biblical Konkani drama based on Old Testament was staged at Holy Cross church grounds, Cordel on Sunday March 2, drew large number of viewers which was successful in kindling religious fervour of ancient times.
'Dha Upades' Konkani Biblical drama was written by Sangeet Guru, Joel Pereira and directed jointly by Dolla and Claud D'Souza, Bendore. It was indeed an experiment on Biblical Konkani drama of such big magnitude ever held in the Mangalore diocese. The setting of 15 stages with ultra-technology and over 300 artistes invoked the religious fervour among the viewers.
Earlier, Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, graced the stage programme attended by local corporator, K Bhaskar, as chief guest during the stage programme.
Fr Lawrence D'Souza, parish priest of Cordel church, Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, Vicar General, Mangalore Diocese, Susheel Noronha, president of Cordel unit of Catholic Sabha, Alban Pinto, secretary, Denis D'Silva, convener were present on the dais along with IGP Prasad who came as a special guest for the function.
'Dha Upades' Konkani Biblical drama was staged by Cordel unit of Catholic Sabha, in order to mobilize funds for the studies of poor students.
The blend of Konkani traditional musical instrument, 'Gumott' by Joachim Pereira and troupe added additional touch to the Biblical Konkani drama.
The viewers were found watching many episodes with awe, since it conveyed true images of Israelites plight in the desert and their journey to Promised Land. All the artistes strived to excel in their roles which collectively brought applause from viewers.
Thousands of people from the parishes in and around the city flocked to Cordel parish grounds, to view this unique Biblical drama.
