Mangaluru, Mar 15: “Humans have used literature, art, cinema, poetry and other forms as a means to reach out and be one with the creator. Amongst all Cinema is an art which gives liberty to every film-maker to portray the world through his or her eyes. Come out of the privileged position of being an artist and be one with the life” opined eminent Kannada poet and writer Jayanth Kaikini.

He was delivering a key note address during the valedictory ceremony of Beacons 2K17, two-day national level media fest organised by Nitte Institute of Communication recently.

Speaking further he said literature is the essence of every art. One should not forget the role of literature which becomes a platform for expressing the thoughts running through our minds. “Multilingual sensibility is the essence of India. It should also become an essence of our personality. Literature comes from restlessness, vulnerability and naked space of the underprivileged. Through the right use of literature and language one can create wonders and explore the unexplored. Create an image in mind and communicate to the world through that image” he added further.

Expressing his views on the excess use of social media Kaikini opined that social media rule humans.

“Social media today is excessively attracting people, it is just creating a pseudo sense of participation. People have started assuming that they have done a great service by just forwarding a message. They do not walk but just talk. Essence of work comes from the life so consider life experiences. Come out from social media and socialise yourself. Virtual world should not hamper our direct touch with life” he opined.

Mr Kiran Raj, associate director of Kannada films who was also present during the occasion exhorted youngsters present to produce films and be the voice of the society.

"Do not restrict yourself to the world of Facebook and expressing opinions on other social media formats. Make use of the available infrastructure and start producing films. Meet writers, critics, poets, film makers get your works vetted by them, change it based on feedback” he suggested.

SDM College Ujire bagged the overall Championship while Vivekanada College, Puttur were declared as runners-up. Eminent guests hande over the trophies and felicitated the winners of various events.

The two-day media fest filled with dance, music and exciting competitions like theme dance, face painting, mock press, JAM, creative writing, crisis management, spot photography, short film making, icebreaker, treasure hunt, live reporting, mime, quiz, RJ hunt and product launch saw a participation of nearly 25 colleges from across India.
