M’lore: 'Jezu Bhonvarimcheo Streeyo' Konkani Biblical Play Attracts Large Crowd

Mangalore, Mar 10: The religious fervour has been sweeping the Konkani lovers especially during the Lenten season in the city than in the past. The sea of devotees and Konkani enthusiasts witnessed yet another Biblical Konkani play within a span of 8 days. ‘Jezu Bhonvaricheo Streeyo’ Konkani Biblical play was held at St Agnes Special School grounds, Bendore, on Sunday March 9. The play was organized by St Ann’s Church, Kelarai, in aid of studies of poor students in their parish.
Monsignor Alexander D’Souza, past president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy inaugurated the play ‘Jezu Bhonvaricheo Streeyo’.
‘Jezu Bhonvaricheo Streeyo’ was indeed served as a tribute to women across the world, on the occasion of ‘World Women Day’ celebrations, owing to their distinct quality which clearly differentiates men as they are embodied with sacrifice, perseverance, generosity, forgiving and total commitment to the family. The play was successful in echoing the passions of Jesus, his unconditional love to the humanity as expressed through Mother Mary and other women who journeyed through his final hours till his crucifixion and triumphant resurrection which brought stream of tears among the viewers. It was a play which rekindled the religious fervour of Christianity through the times of Jesus, during the Lent, as preparation to resurrection, great joy on Easter that follows in a fortnight.
Louie Pinto, Rohan Monteiro, playwright and director, Arunraj Rodrigues, Sangeet Guru Joel Pereira, Jossy Rodrigues, vice-president of St Ann’s parish council, Kelrai, Fr Mark Castelino, parish priest of St Ann’s Church, Kelarai, Prescilla Monteiro, secretary of parish council, Kelarai, were present on the occasion.
The play was staged by ‘Mandd’ troupe which was its third consecutive performance wherein the first two shows were held in Kalangann, in the past.
Anil Coelho, Bejai, Sooraj Machado, Shaktinagar, Melita Pinto, Bejai, Sonia Crasta, Anjelore, Metilda Pinto, Bejai, Leena Crasta, Vamanjoor, Flavia Mascarenhas, Shaktinagar, David D’Souza, Shaktinagar, Pradeep Albuquerque, Kelarai, Blasius Monteiro, Shaktinagar, Stanley Vaz, Neermarga, Clifford D’Mello, Bejai, Praveen Neri, Angelore, Kenny D’Souza, Bendore, Reena Rodrigues, Bejai, Collin Rodrigues, Bejai, Merula Pinto, Bejai and Celine Rodrigues, Bejai were the leading artistes who enacted their roles to their fullest potential.
