Udupi: Police Flag Day observed with grandeur

Udupi, Apr 3: The district police observed Police Flag Day with with a colorful parade at Chandu Maidan here on Sunday, April 2.

Retired sub-inspector Nagesh Mesta was the chief guest and received the guard of honour at the parade. He ceremoniously released the police flag on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering Nagesh said, "Police plays a crucial role in civil protection and internal security of the nation. Police should build a good opinion among the public by addressing their grievances, thereby creating a positive image of the department. The government too is doing its bit by bringing beneficial schemes like Arogya Bhagya scheme especially for retired police officers."

K T Balakrishna, Superintendent of Police, Udupi district said, "In order to raise welfare funds for retired police personnel, nearly 3.25 lakhs of flag stamps have been provided by the chief office on the flag day. There is a necessity of collecting more welfare funds for protecting the interests of police."

Briefing the gathering through the welfare programmes for the police department, he said, "Police personnel work under a lot of pressure. Personnel on the verge of retirement will have blood pressure and sugar related health problems. Nearly 75 applications have been received from retired police officers seeking medical expenses in the district and Rs 6.40 lac of amount will be distributed through the welfare fund."  

Welfare fund was distributed to retired police officials and staffs on the occasion.

Armed reserve police inspector Raghavendra led the march-past.

ASP Vishnuvardhan was present. District Control Room PSI B Manamohan Rao compered the programme.
