Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 6: Police personnel belonging to the Bengaluru city crime branch (CCB), who continued investigation into a racket involved with supplying fake marks cards, arrested four more persons and recovered 732 fake marks cards belonging to various universities and boards across the country. The certificates recovered also include those purportedly issued by Karnataka State Open University.

City crime branch deputy commissioner of police, Anand Kumar, said in a press conference held here on Friday May 5 that as per the information they have collected so far, 1.6 lac certificates have been supplied by this racket for a whopping Rs 125 crore.

The persons arrested happen to be staff of RPS School, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, Saurav Kumar Sharma, Sandesh Agarwal of Douple Eight Consultancy functioning at Pitampura New Delhi, Kunal Kumar Mondal, Aruna of Fortune institute in the city, and Deepankar Sen, also settled in the city.

The police officials had arrested Kunal Kumar Mondel, who was operating a firm, 'Join us for Education' in Manipal Centre, on April 12. It is gathered that the accused got marks cards, certificates, provisional certificates of various universities and boards at New Delhi and then distributed them to the needy here on the basis of their individual requirements. Depending upon the need and importance of the certificates to the clients, charges ranging between Rs 50,000 and one lac were levied.

The police had come to know through arrested Kunal Kumar Mondel, who belongs to Bihar, during interrogation that he was involved with this business since two years. He gave the name of the person linked to this racket as Kaushal Kumar. The police then took into possession Dipankar Sen, employed in a private college here. During the questioning, Sen said a person named Gaurav Kumar from Delhi was supplying documents to him. During further probe, police found that Saurav Kumar Sharma residing in Gaziabad was transacting in the name of Gaurav Kumar, to avoid legal hassles.

Saurav told the police that all the fake records were printed and provided by Sandesh Kumar from New Delhi. During their raid on Double Eight Consultancy in New Delhi, the police unearthed stock of certificates in the names of Karnataka Open University and a number of other universities, secondary education boards of different states, CBSC, and other examination authorities. They seized 732 marks cards, 836 blank certificates kept ready for printing, computers, printers, coral draw software and other things. They also learnt that Sandesh has distributed 1.60 fake certificates so far during the last two years through 180 agents.

Aruna of Fortune Institute here was arrested on the basis of information collected from Sandesh. About a hundred fake records pertaining to the city have been confiscated, and investigation is continuing, police officers stated.

Anand Kumar added that further investigation is under way.
