Udupi, Apr 4: The officials and staff of Suzlon Infrastructure (large-sized wind turbines manufacturer) were sent back forcibly by the villagers when they came to acquire 4.5 acres of land at Abbedi village near Padubidri here on Thursday April 3.

The land is said to have belonged to certain Honnaih Moily. As per the land value the company had to pay a compensation of Rs 45 lac to the family members of Moily, but no such measure was taken. But the officials of the company along with KIADB and police arrived at the spot to fence the land without any prior notice and asked the residents to vacate the place, which prompted the villagers to send them back forcibly, sources added.

Local leaders and police intervened when the situation became worse and assured that the matter would be dealt with without any bias.

If this land was legally acquired then Suzlon has right to the land. Greed is increasing in our village community who know that companies can pay any price to acquire land and they come in way of the law. Law should take the right course. Irrespective, Suzlon is harnessing wind energy - so you cannot have more greener a company that is doing more than what agriculture can do for the environment

How can someone comes and acquires the land without paying anything to the owners of the land? If this land is agricultural land (On photographs it looks like)then nobody should be allowed to sell such land because as I said before no industry is above agrticulture.

However, if these industry people wants to develop the area then they should go to barren land provided such an induistry do not destroy the enviornment and they give priority to the local qualified candidates first. Local authorities should take care of this if they are really working for the betterment of the people and the true development of the area.

Its good that many companies are setting up at Coastal Karnataka. But, at the same time, the companies should serve notice well in advance with the consent of the landlords and also the proper compensation packages. They should not harm anybody.

This kind of lawlessness is not accepted. There must be some political people behind this. All the villagers and all the district shall boycott the election meetings of such party.
