Mangaluru, Jun 10: Both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts continued to get good rainfall on Friday June 9 and all through Friday night. The monsoon has intensified and almost all the taluks in the twin districts experienced good rainfall.
While the meteorological department expects the coast to have cloudy weather and moderate rainfall during the next two days, the principal secretary (disaster management) in revenue department has predicted heavy rain in coastal districts during the next two days.
The additional deputy commissioner has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea for next two days. People living in low lying areas and riverbeds have been advised to shift to places in higher altitudes.
As water has started to flow into the vented dam across Swarna river at Baje in Udupi district, Udupi city municipality is hopeful of beginning to pump water all 24 hours of the day beginning Sunday if the dam gets enough inflow by then.
At present, drinking water is being supplied once in four days, and on Saturday, half of the city will get water supply, officials stated.
