Mangalore: Rose Veera D'Souza of St Aloysius College Awarded PhD

Mangalore, Apr 12: The Mangalore University has awarded the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph D) to Rose Veera D'Souza, lecturer at the department of Political Science of St Aloysius College in the city, for her dissertation entitled, "Globalization and its Impact on Welfare State with reference to India and Brazil".
She was successfully guided by Dr Valerian Rodrigues, Professor at the Centre for Political Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
Dr Rose Veera is an alumna of SVS College, Bantwal, having completed B A in 1989, securing highest marks in the class. She had also served as the secretary of Humanities Association of the college in III B.A. She completed M A with I Rank in Political Science from Mangalore University. In 1991 she joined as lecturer at St Aloysius College, and in April 2006 she took charge as the head of the department of Political Science.
She completed the diploma in Basics of Portuguese Language (Basico em Lingua Portuguesa) from Instituto Indo Portugues, Panjim, Goa in 2001 with First class and a Certificate Course in Brazilian Culture and Portuguese Language in 2001 from Centre for Latin American Studies, Goa University, also with First Class.
She was awarded Professor Radha Kamal Mukherjee Memorial Award for Young Social Scientists for the paper "Cuba's Response to the US Policy Postures Since 1990, by the Indian Social Science Association at its 23rd Conference in 2003. The same year, she was awarded M Phil by the University of Goa, after completion of the two-year course and submission of dissertation.
The awarding of Ph D in 2008 by the Mangalore University has come as a crowning glory to Dr Rose Veera's career, which is marked by a string of academic achievements and accomplishments.
She is the daughter of the late Lawrence D'Souza and Evelyn Saldanha of Loreto-Bantwal origin and daughter-in-law of Benedicta Noronha and the late Richard Rodrigues ('Richa' Master) of Kowdoor-Kaikamba. She is married to Melvin Rodrigues and they have a daughter, Marsha Rhea, and a son, Melreeve Evelon. They reside in Valencia, Mangalore.
