Udupi, Apr 25: It is not uncommon to hear of road accidents and loss of human life on our National highways.  But here is a bizarre incident reported on NH 17 near Mulur of a peacock being hit and killed by an unidentified speeding vehicle. It is believed that the accident might have occurred around 10 am, Thursday April 24.

Owing to deforestation,  the wild habitat is  forced to get into villages and towns for sustenance.

Officials from The Forest department and  Animal Husbandry department  visited the spot and buried the dead bird as per stipulated rules.   A case  has been  registered against the unknown vehicle driver who was responsible for hitting and killing the national bird.  It was not long ago when a wild boar was also  found dead on the same road , again a  hit and run victim.
