Mangalore, Apr 28:  The coastal belt of Karnataka has produced several golden voices.  But not many of them have risen up to newer heights. In classical singing though, without a classical background and training , it is hard for one to excel in this art. But 39-year-old Ravindra Prabhu of Mulky has proved it otherwise. A dedicated musician, Prabhu uses his voice to earn his living.

Prabhu won the hearts of coastal Kannadigas  with his style and voice. Today, Ravindra Prabhu sings in all local languages including  Hindi. Although Kannada is his specialty, he also sings in Tulu, Konkani, Urdu, Beary and other languages . Prabhu has a  special ability to sing semi-classical songs and Ghazals of eminent Hindi singers  like Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Manna De and Kannada singers Dr Rajkumar, S P Balasubrahmaniam, P B Shrinivas, C Ashwath, Puttur Narasimha Nayak and others using  his own unique style.

Prabhu made a big name in the field of devotional music, as he penned lyrics, composed music and rendered his voice to several albums. He is a familiar voice in Kannada and Tulu movies. In the past  20 years, Prabhu has performed in over 5000  filmy, classical, devotional and light music stage shows.  He travelled abroad to perform in Bahrain and Kuwait.

The district administration has honoured him with the 'Suvarna Karnataka Rajyotsava district award' in the presence of the then district in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty.

Prabhu will now lead a 9-member musicians’ team to Dubai to perform at the  'Golden Oldies Melody Nite' on May 2, 2008 at the Indian High school Auditorium.

"We have chosen golden hits of yesteryears to bring back fond  memories of those days. We know in UAE there are several coastal people who love music. Old hits are part of our life. We want to  entertain music lovers of the UAE" says Ravindra Prabhu while speaking to daijiworld correspondent.

Ravindra Prabhu has a  full time professional troupe known as  'Rag Rang' in Mangalore and performs regularly at various places in Mangalore.

Truely this man is really good. I remember one even in mysore where people are known for sleeping early at 9.00 p.m and crowd hesitate to dance.which is true to my sense when I saw a even one. Next year they called Ravindra Prabhu and to surprise this guy has kept the crowd at its toes and everybody danced( many rush to floors). this is the only event I saw where public requirest again and again continue the even end time reached at 9.00 p.m. at last the event went up to 10.15p.m.

He is good and has his own way of singing specially the dancing songs are too good.
