Mangalore, May 4: The late Sunil D'Mello memorial volleyball and throw ball tournament got off to a great start  here at the Lourdes Central School grounds, Bejai early Sunday May 4, 2008.  The tournament is being organized by the United Friends, Bejai.



















Fr J P Tauro, parish priest, Bejai church who was the chief guest ,  presided over the function.  Lancelot Pinto, corporator and ex-deputy mayor, Mangalore City Corporation, Gretta Rebello, corporator and president of INTUC, D K District Womens Wing, Grace Noronha, principal Lourdes Central School, Bejai were the guests of honour.

While Lancelot Pinto released the doves up into  the open skies to mark the event open, Grace Noronha launched the official website of the tournament organizers, www.theunitedfriends.com


Mabel Menezes, Matilda Pinto and Alfred Fernandes were felicitated during the occasion for their immense contribution towards the throw ball and volley ball games for the past 30 years.



















Jerald Lobo, president, Prem Salian, secretary, George DSouza, Convener and Flavy DMello, sister of late Sunil DMello were present on the dais. Asha Crasta proposed vote of thanks.


While a total of 8 teams are participating in the throw ball tournament, 18 teams are fighting for the coveted trophy in the volleyball tournament.
