M'lore: Chikmagalur Region of Ursuline Congregation Erected

Mangalore, May 7: The tiny seed that was sown in Rosario church, Mangalore through the instrumentality of Fr Urban Stein, the founder of Ursuline Franciscan congregation in the year 1887 has grown into to a mighty tree spreading its braches all over India and overseas. Mysore Province of the Ursuline Franciscan Congregation was formed in the year 1998. The sisters inspired by the patron St Angela Merici and the founder Fr Urban Stein, share in Jesus’ ministry of establishing God's kingdom of love, peace and equality through the process of faith formation, education, healthcare, empowerment of women and family apostolate, care of the orphans and handicapped, developmental works among the socially and economically-backward people.

As the the Province grew and spread its houses, the scope for mission too increased. Realizing the importance of mission the provincial chapters proposed to form the region to the immediate reach out to the sisters in Chikmagalur and Shimoga dioceses. Recently Sr Doreen D’Souza, the superior general erected the Chikmagalur region. Sr Lilly Rodrigues was appointed the regional superior and Sr Theresiamma and Sr Olivia Miranda are the regional councilors.
Chikmagalur region is the fruit of collaborated and configured effort of every sister. The lamp of Ursuline Franciscans' identity with its oil and wicks was lit and made visible by the sisters involved in various apostolate by performing different functions. To their credit, Ursulines have reached out to the most remote areas in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh etc and have made their presence felt through service to the poor and needy.
