Udupi, Aug 5: The Karnataka Vidyarthi Parishad activists Udupi wing staged a protest on Friday, August 4 in front of Clock tower, Udupi here condemning mysterious circumstances prevailing around the death of emerging badminton champion Kavya.
Prithviraj Shetty, founder convenor of KVP addressing the protesters said, "The death of Kavya, a student of Alvas Institute, has led to suspicion in the society. The government is giving silly excuses about the case. It has been 20 days since her death. Yet the educational institution has not given any clarity to her parents. Certain unnatural cases of death have been termed as acts of suicide. For instance, the Sowjanya and Ranjitha cases.
"We will fight until Kavya's family gets justice. Facts must be revealed at any cost. Why should Alva's administration be protecting the culprits, hiding in the case?" questioned Prithviraj.
"Kavya's parents demanded the government conduct a medical test of the coach. The government had agreed to it. But no such development was seen afterwards. No further action has been taken.
"We will give the government and the administration one week's time to reveal facts about the case. Else, KVP will hold a city-wide bandh, wherein 40 colleges unitedly will stage a protest. If no developments take place in the investigation of the case, we will hold a massive protest after August 15, uniting college students," said Prithviraj.
"Besides, the institute must announce Rs 10 lac compensation for the family," he demanded.
