Mangaluru, Aug 11: An elderly lady allegedly committed suicide by drowning herself in a tank in the premises of her house at Jeppinamogaru here. The incident came to light on Friday August 11.

The deceased has been identifed as Devaki Shetty (73).

Devaki was living with her four grown-up children - Naveen, Vidya, Vinod and Shubha. On the night of Thursday August 11, Devaki spoke to them as usual before retiring to bed.

On Friday morning, Devaki was not found in her room or anywhere inside the house. Her worried family searched for her, and to their utter shock, found her body inside the water tank.

The tank is located just outside the house in the yard. It is not clear how Devaki was able to climb over the tank and drown herself, but it is suspected that she might have used a stool that was lying nearby.

The body was taken to Wenlock hospital for post-mortem.

Kankanady police arrived at the spot and registered a case.

    Chai,
Don't come to hasty conclusion as if you can read something into the pictures.
Your statement is an innuendo against the children. Elderly people feel they are a big burden to their children and out of desperation they want to end that burden. Let proper investigation continue.
