Mangalore, May 22: Body of an unidentified youth, murdered and dumped in a secluded place behind a hotel on Balmata Road in the city, was found in the early hours on Thursday May 22.
The identity of youth, aged around 30 years, has not yet been established. He was found to be wearing blue jeans, a tiny ring in one of his ears and a thin black thread around his neck.
The body is believed to be that of a Tibetan, because of a dragon tattoo found in his shoulder region. He was presumably employed in some fast food joint in the city. His photograph and other bits of papers found in his trouser pocket convey that he was hailing from Napoklu in Kodagu district. His elbows were found to have been broken and there were scratch marks all over his face while a deep wound was found in his abdomen.
Sources informed that he could have been killed by holding down his face against the ground. He seems to have struggled to free himself from the attackers which led him to roll down the staircase.
Local restaurant staff opined that the tragedy might have occurred after 1 am on Thursday, as most of the restaurants in the locality close their businesses by then. A restaurant employee working in the vicinity of the place where the body was found, informed that he spotted the dead body of the youth only at 4 am, although he had passed by that secluded spot to put off the water pump at about 1 am on Thursday.
The police are exploring the possibilities of whether he had slipped from the first floor during the night or if he had stayed overnight in the restaurant.
Police inspector Jayant Shetty and police personnel from Bunder station are investigating the case.
