Raknno Weekly Sports Trophy in Israel

Israel, May 28: Raknno Konkanni Weekly published from Mangalore a prestigious  Konkanni Weekly of Mangalorean Christian Community for the past seventy years is organizing RAKNNO TROPHY in Israel on the 21st and 28th of June 2008.  It will be a unique meet of variety of sports and games with the aim to bring in awareness towards positive reading habits in the mother tongue Konkanni. 

The solemn inauguration of the Raknno Trophy would be held on Saturday at 7.30 a.m. on the 21st of June 2008 at Vingate Ground, Nofyam, Israel.  On that day there will be Volley ball and Throw ball matches as well as interesting Crazy games held.  On the 28th of June, Saturday, the cricket tournament will be held at Luna Park Ground, Ramathaviv.  The last day to get the entry for the teams to participate in the Raknno Trophy would be on Wednesday, the 18th of June 2008.   As special attraction to the participants and viewers there will special discount given on  Raknno-Kajulo subscriptions on the days of Trophy. 

A local organizing committee is already at full swing as to make the Raknno Trophy a successful and memorable event.    Joseph Neri, Katipalla is  the local Convener of  the Raknno Trophy with Navin Pais Naravi, William Lopez Coorg, Pradeep D’Souza Shirtady and Tomm M. S. Nelyadi as the Executive Committee members.  The Raknno Editor Fr Francis Rodrigues together with the local organizing Committee has invited all the Konkannis residing in Israel as to partake in this celebration of the Konkannis in Israel. 

RAKNNO: Informing, educating and entertaining - this is the role of every media, and ‘Raknno’ though being a Konkanni Weekly by nature has strived to keep its readers abreast with the times. The last two decades have been specially significant for Raknno, by publishing a variety of articles, news-features, news-analysis and media criticism, it has gained the loyalty of the people.  Raknno has stolen the show by its sensible and wide coverage on agricultural, scientific, medical, legal, economical, political, religious, cultural, educational, social and career guidance issues. Constant innovation and creativity have been Raknno’s forte. Humour, satire, serialized novels, short stories and special pages for children, youth and women have been promoting literature and the habit of reading.

A PUBLICATION CALLED RAKNNO:  As a publishing house, Raknno has been publishing both fiction and non - fiction books (titles).  Having 104 titles  of printed books and one CD/ cassette to its credit till date, it has tried to give knowledge on variety of issues through  Konkanni books in Kannada script. “Kanun Darshan” a book on legal awareness by Mr Shirthady William Pinto published by Raknno in June 2006 has seen a record sale with 4 editions within a span of 4 months.  The updated 5th edition is on the way.

KAJULO CHILDREN’S  MONTHLY: ‘Kajulo’ published by Raknno is a Konkanni Magazine meant exclusively  for the children for the last ten years.  It presents light but informative and entertaining reading as per the taste of the children in the form of stories, fun pages, cartoon stories, quizzes, competitions, etc.  Fr Francis Rodrigues is the present Editor of Raknno/Kajulo.
