Puttur, Sep 10: A truck carrying timber logs overturned at a spot ner Shiradi on national highway 75 where highway widening work is in progress. As a result of this accident, which happened after the driver lost control over the vehicle, the road remained blocked from morning till evening on Saturday September 9.

The lorry was coming from the direction of Hassan when it met with an accident. Boulders have been stacked at the spot where the accident happened, and explosives are often used to detonate big boulders for highway wideniHng work at night. People say that because boulders are not cleared from the road after detonation, vehicles face hard time to move on this road, and the timber truck too fell because of boulders on the road.

The accident had happened at 6 am, after which police from Nelyady came and paved way for movement of vehicles from one side of the road. However, the traffic came to standstill again at 10 am when a huge container got stuck at the spot when trying to negotiate the road. The container and truck were removed in the evening. Policemen regulated traffic till then and sent stranded vehicles through alternative routes.

The people say that explosions have not stopped at night even after police department issues memo to the concerned to stop the activity. As such, huge stone pieces get deposited on the road, posing risk for the vehicles, they point out.
