BJP MP's cook held for Rs 22-lakh theft


New Delhi, Oct 18 (IANS): A 37-year-old man working as a cook at BJP MP Kunwar Sarvesh Kumar Singh has been arrested for stealing Rs 22 lakh from the politician's official residence in central Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

Police said accused Rajkumar of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh was arrested here on Monday. Singh is Bharatiya Janata Party's Member of Parliament from Moradabad.

"On October 9, the BJP leader reported theft of Rs 22 lakh by an unknown man from his official residence on the Mahadev Road here. A case was registered at Parliament Street police station," Deputy Commissioner of Police B.K. Singh said.

"In a closed-circuit television footage, Rajkumar was seen leaving the house with a bag and was arrested. He admitted to his crime during questioning. He said he knew about the cash kept in the house.

"He went along with Singh to Moradabad, returned on October 7 with keys he had stolen earlier and committed the theft. He then buried the cash box in a deserted field and returned to the Uttar Pradesh town," the DCP added.
