Panaji, Jun 20: A 45-year-old killer on the spree killed his wife and brother-in-law at two different locations in Vailankini village in Sanguem taluka on Thursday June 19 night.

Manuel Rodrigues has been arrested by Sanguem police for shooting dead his 41-year-old wife Carmila Rodrigues and his 42-year-old brother-in-law Mathew D’Silva.

“While the wife was shot in her temple at point blank range in her house, Mathew who stays just a kilometer away was shot from a distance of two meters in his neck,” superintendent of police (South) Shekhar Prabhudesai stated.

Police stated that the accused was reportedly disturbed over his wife’s alleged illicit relation with another guy from the same village and had attempted to kill her with sharp weapon two months back.

“Police complaint was registered in this connection and Mathew’s wife, who also happens to be Carmila’s sister, was a complainant in this case,” Prabhudesai said.

Initial investigations revealed that the accused who runs a liquor business in the village initially killed his wife by shooting her in her head with the country gun from point blank range.

Later in a rage, he rushed to Mathew’s house situated a kilometers away and aimed at his wife from the nearby bushes. “There is every possibility that he missed his aim accidently shooting Mathew who had just than come out after taking a bath,” the SP said.

Mathew’s 13-year-old daughter informed police about assault on her father and police during the search of the accused found Carmila dead.

“We have called in the team of scientific experts to study how many shots were fired,” Prabhudesai said.
