GST to improve India's biz ranking further: PM

New Delhi, Nov 4 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday exuded confidence that India's ease of doing business ranking will further improve next year when the impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) - the biggest tax reform - is taken into account.

Modi said India has in three years jumped 42 places to break into top 100 countries on World Bank's ease of doing business ranking.

This ranking takes into account reforms initiated only till May-end and does not reflect the impact of the GST, which was implemented from July 1, he said.

The GST has not just integrated the nation of 1.2 billion into one market with one tax rate but also provided a stable and transparent taxation regime, he said.

This reform plus others that have already happened but need gestation and stabilisation time before they are taken into account by the World Bank, will improve the ranking, he said.

Modi said he does not want to sleep over the 30-place jump this year - the biggest leap by India ever, and want to do more. He said he has "one life, one mission" of bringing change to India and its 1.25 billion people.

Taking a dig at the opposition leaders for doubting the ranking, he said those who worked with World Bank were now doubting its ranking.

On the GST, he said a group of ministers has positively accepted issues raised by traders and businesses and the GST Council at its next meeting on November 9-10 will make necessary changes.

He listed out the reforms initiated by his government, saying India is swiftly changing for the better. Tax filing, registration of new business and getting electricity connection have been made easier. "We are among the most open economies of the world," Modi said.

Jumle pe jumla...... I myself is a petty wholesale dealer and I know how GST impact in the Indian market intensified. Retailers cannot afford GST on purchase bills when the market is dull right from the day of demonitization. Many small factories across India shutdown. Big factories stuggling to survive due to decrease in the demand. India will be stable only if Manmohan Singh regain the power.

We don't need person like you, who impose highest tax of individuals without any infrastructure.
if a person earning 1000 rupees a day, then he is paying almost 300 to 350 rupees as tax, is that good for anyone??? why someone should pay 300 to 350 rupees to these politicians?? don't we have natural resources and talent in people, from which govt can utisile and make hassle free life for indians??

    BJP's working methodology under Modi:

1- First oppose GST when INC was in power.
2- When yourself in power, accuse INC not supporting it for passing the GST bill.
3- Accuse INC in election rallies saying they are delaying to pass the bill and hence development stalled.
4- Hastily implement GST under the cloudburst of DeMo.
5- When backfired & outrage all over, blame INC.
6- Accuse INC in election rallies saying they are the equal partners in passing the bill.
7- When India got good rankings, Modi takes self credit for GST implementation & DeMo.
8- Give thick and tall promises for next year and subsequently for 2019 & 2022.
9- Blame INC if it crashes down.
10- Accuse INC for delay of GST in election rallies.

INC might be corrupt but blaming them for your failures and hiding behind them is something the People of India must ponder upon.

Modi and BJP fell into the GST trap congress had laid for the bjp,

Congress would have implemented it if they would have won the election,

How ever trumpet and bjp have ZERO abilities to rule the nation,

They are good only in opposition

Congress is good in administration but should not be in 3/4 majority.

Finally AAP has been good in Delhi so why not all over India

Congress was the architect of GST. You are a foe turned lover of GST. The Congress conceived the GST as a measure of economic reform. But you converted it to be an economic disaster without bringing the petroleum products under the ambit of GST. Demonetisation and GST broken the backbone of common men but the elite business men group are still cashing their pockets..
