Mangaluru, Nov 4: "Prakash, a hard-working young college student, who used to work in night shifts to support his family, died when his bike fell into a trench left open due to negligence of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials and the contractor of the said job. His family should be given suitable relief and his brother should be given a government job," urged district branch of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti.

Speaking at the press conference, S P Ananda, convener, district organization, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti said, "Prakash, resident of Devinagar and a dalit youth, was studying in final year degree in Mangaluru University College. To support his family's income, he had taken up catering job at night. He was also into dance and choreography during his spare time. He had acted as a dance artiste in many Tulu movies as well.

"His family is shattered due to his untimely death. His mother cannot work as she is physically challenged and father is at home due to sickness. Prakash's brother is studying in diploma. He should be provided with a government job and the family should get relief.

"The civil contractors hired by MCC dump mud, stone, sand and pebbles by the roadside without any hazard warning. This is life-threatening to two-wheeler riders. Due to the same reason Prakash has lost his life. There is urgent need to take action against such contractors and add them to the black list," he urged.
