Dubai: Mangalore Konkans Organize 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' UAE Workshop

Dubai, Jul 1: “Gulf Voice of Mangalore” UAE workshop was organized by Mangalore Konkans on Friday June 27 from 10.30 am to 12 noon at Winney’s Restaurant, Dubai. President James Mendonca and all committee members ensured their presence well on time. Valerian Peris, the chief coordinator of this event commenced the proceedings meaningfully through a short prayer. James Mendonca welcomed the gathering.
Manohar Pais, Olinda Goveas and Olivia Rodrigues, some of the experienced Konkani singers of Dubai were invited to give their suggestions to the participants on how to better themselves in their preparation process and final performance. Olivia told the participants the importance of selecting the right kind of song, commitment, hard work, eye contact while singing, posture and expressions, clarity of words etc.
Manohar, through valuable examples laid out the importance of coordinating expressions and actions with the lyrics of the song, pitch control, breathing technique and accent and wished all the participants best of luck. Olinda stressed the importance of following the right beat (on the beat and off beat), feel every word of the song and reproduce it with feelings and right expressions, appreciated all the participants saying “to have qualified as one of the 14 finalists shows that you are a winner, so just do your best” and acknowledged the good, selfless job done by Mangalore Konkans.
Valerian Peris then explained the rules of the competition and ensured that the finalists, who were absent would be updated with the proceedings of the workshop by those present. He insisted that all participants gave their songs latest by June 30. With a note of thanks, the workshop concluded, leaving the participants with a spirit of hope, confidence, determination and some useful tips.
Mangalore Konkans Dubai is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. During the last 20 years they have worked hard to keep Konkani culture and language alive in this part of the world, besides helping several needy people in the field of education and health.
