Mangalore: Machcha Milar Elected President of Konkani Writers Forum

Mangalore, Jul 13: Former Amcho Yuvak editor, Konkani writer, activist and orator popularly known as 'Machcha Milar' Marcel D'Souza has been elected the president of Konkani Writers Forum Karnataka (R), Mangalore.

The annual general body meeting was held on Sunday July 13 at Samanvaya centre. About 40 members of the forum were present and discussed various issues regarding Konkani literature.

Outgoing president of the forum Dr Edward Nazareth thanked everyone for supporting him during his tenure and expressed satisfaction on the progress of the forum.




















Dr Edward and his wife Nelly Nazareth were honoured for his contribution to Konkani literature also congratulated for winning an award recently.

It may be recalled that Dr Edward recently won the Konkani Kutam Bahrain award, presented to him on Saturday July 12 at a programme held in Sandesha.

The office bearers for the year 2008-09 are as follows

Gladys Rego (Vice-president)
Dolphy Cascia (Secretary)
Charles DSouza (Joint secretary)
J F D'Souza (Treasurer)

Comittee members: Dr Edward Nazreth, Henry M Pernal, Tony Ferrose, Paul Moras and Victor Mathias (Vitori Karkal).

    “Pen is mightier than sword” The impact of creative and intelligent writers seem to be recognized more and more by our community. Dr.Edward and Macha Milar, and of course others like the great CGS,Dolphy Cascia, Fr.Mark Walder and Fr.Vincent Menezes, and earlier the late Kadap, Simon Rasquinha, Cha Fra, Jo Sa Alvaris, Gabbu and others have left their indelible mark on our community with many thought provoking messages about life, community life or to be precise the Cultural life that’s unique for our community.

    A recognision or honouring any author or writer is indeed praiseworthy and I am happy in particular to greet Macha Milar whom I’ve known personally for a long time and also Dr.Edward Nazereth (even though we’ve not met, but I have read his contributions for more than 25 years on the Rakno etc.) Indeed glad to see Fr.Mark Walder in the photographs. I owe a lot to him for instilling in me more and more love and respect for Konkany. A word of appreciation to the patriach of modern day communication in the community who is none other than the Daijiworld’s Walter Nandalike. Thanks to you all gentlemen, the community is now rich in the literature field.

May you find many goodwilled and talented be done in this field. There is no glamaour these days in such posts, still we need them for sustaining the future of our mother tongue.
