Moodbidri: Konkani Poets Entertain August Gathering at Taccode

Moodbidri, Jul 16: Those who say Konkani does not possess good poets and they are becoming a rarity, had a lot to ponder after seeing a number of established and up and coming poets entertaining the gathering at the Adarsh High School hall at Taccode near here during the 'Poetry Session' cnoudcted by Kavita Trust on Sunday July 13 evening.
Taccode, the land of Konkani poets, writers and activists was perhaps the apt choice for holding this unique Konkani programme.
The entire session was moderated by 'Son of the Soil' Titus Noronha, who is known in Konkani circles for his rich language and fabulous presentation skills. Elyer Taccode, who has carved a niche for himself as one of the up and coming yet premier poets of Konkani welcomed the gathering. Melvyn Rodrigues, 'the poet' of Konkani who is the brain behind these poetry sessions delivered the keynote address during which he introduced Kavita Trust and its activities to the gathering.
The hall was filled with Konkani poetry buffs from Mangalore, Barkur and even Goa. Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario, his wife Joyce Ozario, convener Stany Alvares, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan president Roy Castelino, past president of Karnataka Konkani Writers Forum, Dr Edward Nazareth, Taccode parish priest Fr Hilary Lobo, former parish priest Fr Jerald D'Souza, former headmaster of Taccode Valerian Moras, Konkani Kutam Bahrain convener Richard Moras, Konkani weekly 'Dirvem' editor John Monis, well-known Konkani writer Gladys Rego, poet H M Pernal were a few among the august gathering. The audience was also made up of nuns and number of Konkani lovers.
Famed Konkani humourist CGS Taccode had sent a poem specially meant for the occasion which was presented by Lloyd Rego while Jo C Sidhakatte's poem was read out by Carmelite poet-priest Fr Alwyn.
Following poets took part in the poetry session: Dimple Fernandes, Avina Miyar, Lohit Avinash Pinto, Victor Lobo Bajal, Clement Fernandes (Munna Taccode), Yashwant D S, Asma Moodbidri, Geo Agrar, Vitori Karkal, Eddie Cardoza, Melwyn Pernal, Elyer Taccode, Richie Pereira, Naveen Pereira Suratkal, Melvyn Rodrigues, Panchu Bantwal, Andrew L D'Cunha, Gregory Lobo, Wilson Kateel and Titus Noronha.
Jo C Sidhakatte's anthology 'Paavsaa Dhonnu' was presented to all the participants by Fr Alwyn.
Vitori Karkal proposed vote of thanks while Kishoo Barkur, secretary of Kavita Trust honoured local organizers Richard Moras, Elyer Taccode and Titus Noronha.
This was the fifth poetry session conducted by Kavita Trust in the ongoing year. Earlier poetry sessions were held at Mangalore, Bantwal, Dubai and Barkur.
