Mangalore, Jul 27: Union minister of state for labour and employment and senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes is likely to be appointed as president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), sources informed.
Since Mallikarjun Kharge was chosen to be leader of the opposition party lin the assembly, he had to quit the caretaker post of KPCC president which he had held since over a month. However, adhering to Congress rules that no member will be allowed to hold dual posts, the Congress high command has decided to appoint a new chairman for KPCC as the parliamentary elections are nearing closer.
Sources said that KPCC will be restructured soon and Oscar would be the ideal choice for the post of KPCC president. The party High command learnt that Oscar is the right person to lead the Congress in Karnataka as he has maintained cordial relations with all levels of party men. But it remains to be seen if he will continue as union minister after his formal takeover as president of KPCC.
