UK lawmaker launches campaign against India, claims minorities not safe

London, Jan 26 (PTI): One of the first British Muslims to be appointed to the House of Lords on Thursday launched a protest campaign against India, claiming that minorities in the country are not safe.

Lord Nazir Ahmed, who was born in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, raised in South Yorkshire and has regularly made common cause with "Kashmiri Pakistanis", is leading the campaign that will involve five billboard vans traversing the streets of London.

On Friday, a group led by the politician will gather outside the Indian High Commission in London.

"It will be a peaceful demonstration by a small gathering because we cannot have very large numbers outside the High Commission," he said.

The Indian High Commission in London said it has raised its concerns with the UK authorities, but the billboard vans are private vehicles and therefore not directly under state control.

Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, who was in London to attend the Education World Forum earlier this week, dismissed the protest as "fringe elements" keen to foment trouble.

Meanwhile, some pro-India groups have also organised a 'Chalo India House' demonstration in London to "celebrate India's Republic Day by opposing anti-India lobbyists".

    Pakis have swamped Britain. Soon they will declare it an Islamic republic and then start blasting bombs everywhere filling all streets with filth. Needless to say these British deserve it.

    @Sachin,

    You are absolutely wrong. I think you are completely unaware of current situations particularly in states like UP, Rajastan, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and so on (Most of BJP ruled states)

    You also did not notice that this person talked about Minorities as whole; not just Muslims.

    In UK goras face lots of problems because of this muslim immigrats. Muslim immigrants has larger families many of them multiple wives living mainly on government aid. Prince Charles gave a speech in one of the gulf countries, muslims migrating to UK must value british values and cultures this itself shows britishers not happy with muslim immigrants.

    @Maria,

    Its obvious that citizens feel uncomfortable because of the entry of refugees. But UK has allowed them to live there seeing their difficulties. May Allah bless UK.

    It is also true that many refugees are involved in crimes and ungrateful to the nation which provided them shelter in their bad times.

    Meanwhile; your comment seems to be out of context.

    Earlier even US lawmakers also ask Modi to protect 'fundamental rights' of minorities in India. Few days back human rights world watch reprt says"Indian government failed to protect minorities. Sooner or later India will face hard time bcoz of saffron fringe brigade. Its high time for Modi to stop nurturing Nagpur umbrella groups in order to save India.

    Very good initiative. Some how the truth had to be shown to the world. Only western world has the power to take action against this RSS and their associates. The dual face of Saffron parties will greatly be exposed in coming years and the world will surely react to it one fine day, as they did to those countries who sponsored terrorism.

    Terrorism is not just using bombs and guns or defined only to Muslims. Anything which terrorises humans and makes them lead their life always in fear of loss or property or life itself is Terrorism. It can be any group or any state sponsored. God will make the world know what is going on in India these days and the sufferers will surely get justice one fine day as suppression cannot last for ever. The revolution will always takes place in one or the other way.

    RSS/BJP, other smaller Hindu communal outfits, Muslim communal outfits are big liability to India. One can compare them to American Neo Nazi and German Nazi outfits. These groups will distroy themselves and others and will bring bad name to majority of peace loving people.
    To the betterment of the Nation these groups should be separated from the Government and all government establishments.

    Only way for India to separate Religion, Religious parties like RSS/BJP, Muslim Leauge/Muslim political outfits and cast based organazations from Government. Failure will make us more poor and our country may again devide in to many regional states and the rich and educated Hindus will take away Indian wealth and move to Developed countries in the west.

    I think you are out of your mind. India is a huge country and there is a common criminal law in this country. In Pakisthan to egypt there are repeated bombings of minorities and their places of worship. We gave seen that. It seems that some vested interest are spreading falsehood. Few aberrations are projected as patterns. Remember India is a country of billion people . Do not blow things out of proportion
