Mangalore: ‘Aatidonji Dina’ at Pilikula Showcases Rich Culture of Tulu Nadu

Mangalore, Jul 31: ‘Aatidonji Dina,’ a programme organized at Guttu house in Pilikula to showcase and experience the rich culture of Tulu Nadu, saw a good number of visitors on Wednesday, July 30.
The food made from natural ingredients was the special attraction of the day. Traditional dishes like ‘patrode’, ‘pelakai gatti’, ‘sarnedde’, ‘olitha moode’, ‘kudutha saar-chatni’, ‘timareda chatni’, ‘pelakai garage’, ‘sambrani tappu tambuli’, and many more mouthwatering delicacies were up on offer.
It is believed that plants contain more medicinal power during the month of ‘Aati’ (Ashada). That’s why herbs are given prominence in this month, say experts.
An exhibition on traditional items and antiquities used in a rural setting was also organized here. Another highlight of the event was the presentation of various Tulu cultural shows, as well as Tulu and Kannada folk songs.
A lecture on food and medicinal plants, and a discussion on special foods made in the month of ‘aati’, was also held. Prof K M Kaveriappa, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University, inaugurated the programme.
Shriyala Hegde, member, taluk panchayat, Kavita Dinesh, member, Moodushedde village panchayat, Rameshkumar B N, regional officer, state pollution control board, Fr Denis D’Sa, administrator, Fr Muller Medical College, B Jayalakshmi Shetty, and Kasturi Ratnakar, were amongst those present.
