Mangaluru: With eye on improving SSLC result, ZP writes to Muslim clerics

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 31: With a view to further improve result of SSLC examination being held during March this year, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat (ZP) has written to Muslim priests seeking their support for improving SSLC result in the district.

These letters dated January 19 contain joint signatures of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Dr M R Ravi, and chairman of education and health standing committee, Shahul Hameed. The letter mentions that the purpose of writing this letter was to ensure that no child lags behind in education, an aim that is backed by the principle of social responsibility.

Dr M R Ravi

"During the previous academic year, 41.87 percent Muslim students had failed in SSLC examination. Out of 8.860 who appeared for the examination, 2,212 could not clear it. This figure is made up of 1,348 male and 864 female students. This situation has given rise to apprehension. Towards improving this result, the department of public instruction has been striving. The department also is in need of the support of the community. Being religious and moral guides for the Muslim community, we request you to advise the parents and students of the institutions with which you have link, to put in efforts to clear the examination. The community should be made aware of the importance of clearing the examination by making a mention about it especially during discourses on Friday. At the same time, we request you to postpone other religious and social programmes if any to days falling after the conclusion of SSLC examination," the letter requests.

Dr M R Ravi, said that these letters were addressed in the backdrop of poor results being recorded by Muslim children in SSLC examination, and with the noble purpose of improving the same.

Deeply concerned about this burning issue facing by the community. Jamat Committees, social organizations with the backing of state govt.should put tremendous effort to tackle this issue. Instead of wasting our time & energy on non-issues, the priority to be given for quality community education.
Another of my concern is that, even though i don't have any data's in this case now the stream selection part of year has arrived. In the heat of the moment, students of tenth standard are put under tremendous pressure from their schools and homes. I see many of children’s struggling in the science stream, which has been stereotyped to be the best stream out of all, due to their parent’s desires.
Let your child chase his/her cup of tea and enlighten the world. Your child may be a future teacher, journalist, a good leader or even an inspiring sports person .You shouldn't make your child bite off more than they can chew. Instead open the window for your child to fly forward their dreams and soar. After all, it is their life and they needs to live it.
So, ZP and community should look in to this aspect also

This year it will be miserable especially fr CBSE. All these years they enjoyed they enjoyed the semester scheme and this is they are made to study the whole book. I really pity them. Around 29 lessons in social, 17 lessons in maths same in all other subjects, very vast lessons and very hard to remember. So much of pressure on them. Sorry to say this, we have a crap education system.

Depends how much they listen. Always give focus on their religious stuffs , minimum importance is given to education in this sector. Good alert by ZP. but unfortunately it still remains mystery if they ( parents and students ) listen to this or not. any ways, good effort by ZP.

We have to remind ourselves quite often that we are staying in a secular state. There involves a series of improprieties from a democratically elected Government in engaging priests to uplift the community.

Tomorrow, with same justifications, they may ask the priests to collect taxes, initiate welfare measures and to remit a pre-determined portion to the Government as done in British Rule.

Officials and elected representatives who are bound to uphold constitution should be made accountable an answerable to these misadventures.....!
