Beltangady, Aug 4: The policemen have concluded that the murder of a woman and her child on Saturday afternoon at Addahole was committed by the cousin of the woman's husband named Jayesh. They have now spread their net to nab the culprit.
Sowmya (23), wife of Lohit and her three-year-old son Jishnu were murdered at their residence, by stabbing them with a knife. They were asphyxiated by tying clothes around their necks before stabbing them. The woman was stabbed five times to her neck and abdomen region while the child suffered deep wounds on its back.
Jayesh, son of Lohit's paternal uncle, allegedly committed this heinous crime, when Lohit was away from home. The complaint registered with Uppinangadi police says that the culprit, besides murdering the mother-child duo, had taken away gold ornaments worth around Rs 8,000.
Things stored in the small room where the murder was committed, were found strewn around and blood was splattered on many items.
