Kundapur, Feb 11: Celine Buthello (51). resident of Gujjadi village in the taluk, has filed a complaint in Gangolli police station, charging her husband with forcing her to get converted to Islam. The complaint was made on Saturday February 10.

Celine says that she had married Valerian V Buthello, a resident of Gujjadi, 31 years back. The couple have two children. Valerian embraced Islam two years back and thereafter is said to have begun pestering his wife also to follow suit. She said that angered by her continued persistence against changing her faith, he destroyed an idol and a book pertaining to her religion.

"He often visits my house, and brings pressure on me to become a Muslim. He has been repeatedly attacking me with various things. Without divorcing me, he has married a woman from Navunda," she stated in the police complaint.

Celine claims that she was proceeding to Gangolli church to inform the priest there about the tribulations she has been going through, but Valerian blocked her on the way and assaulted her. She says that her husband has also threatened to kill her and her children if his demand for changing the faith is not acceded to.

The police have registered a case. Investigation has been undertaken.
