Mangalore, Aug 21: KMC Hospital, Mangalore, and Manipal Heart Institute, are organizing an OPD in paediatric cardiology and paediatric cardio–thoracic surgery (CTS), at KMC Hospital, located at Ambedkar (Jyothi) circle on Friday, August 22, from 10:30 am to 2 pm.
The incidence of congenital heart disease (CHD) is about 8 per 1,000 live births. The prevalence of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) in school-aged children is estimated to be in the range of 2-11 per 1000. If a child has been diagnosed with a heart murmur, abnormal heart rhythm, congenital heart defect or other heart disease, the child is referred to pediatric cardiologists and CTS surgeons.
These are super specialists who receive special training in the diagnosis and management of heart disease in infants, children and young adults. Heart problems in children are quite different from those in adults, and thus it requires specialists in this field to handle such situations.
Dr Sunil Deshpande, COO, KMC Hospital, has urged the public to make the maximum possible use of this opportunity.
