Panaji: State Govt to Conserve and Restore 106 Heritage Structures

Panaji, Aug 22: The State government has decided to conserve and restore its 106 heritage structures through grants available under 12th finance commission.

Replying to a question in the state legislative assembly on Friday August 22 afternoon, minister for archives and archeology Atanasio Monserratte said that all the 106 sites are identified by the state government and further work of listing the heritage structures is under progress.

The minister said that presently the government is providing funds for the restoration and conservation of the four major structures which include two churches.

Goa, erstwhile Portuguese colony brags of best architecture identified as Goan domestic architectural style.

The state government has funded the restoration work of Our Lady of Health Church at Ribandar, across Panaji city, which has been allotted Rs 18 lac.

Similarly, Church of St Anne in North Goa is getting a major facelift spending Rs 329 lac of which Rs 98.70 lac is already allotted, the minister said.

The plans are also on to renovate Maruti temple in the capital city of Panaji costing Rs 14.50 lac and also house of renowned singer the late Surshri Kesarbai Kerkar in north Goa costing Rs 10 lac.
