Thank you readers: Rs 12 lac pours in for Smitha to help her walk again

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Apr 9: The kind-hearted readers of Daijiworld spread across the world have once again joined hands to help a family fighting a tough battle.

Responding to an appeal published by daijiworld on March 13 about Smitha Sujay, who is bedridden now and needs artificial limbs in order to walk again, readers have contributed generously. In less than a month, Smitha’s husband Sujay’s bank account has received over Rs 12 lac.

Smitha, in early stages of diabetes, suffered a minor wound on her left toe two or three years ago. Complications led to severe infection, which in turn necessitated amputation of her toe. A few months later, the other toes in the same foot also blackened. The doctors recommended an angiography and the report showed peripheral nerve blockages on both the legs and also blockages in the arteries of the heart.

As per the doctors' instructions, Smitha underwent a bypass surgery. But the problem with the toes persisted. The left lower limb had to be amputated up to the calf. Soon there were issues with the right leg and that had to be amputated too.

During the course of the treatment, the couple spent all their Gulf savings of about Rs 25 lac, and even had to take loans.

Sujay, now after consultation with doctors, has enough money to meet the expenses including attaching artificial limbs which have been ordered from Germany. The artificial limbs will reach the hospital in 20 days.

Speaking to daijiworld, Sujay Bendore and his daughter, who is pursuing her BTech, expressed their gratitude and said that they are extremely elated by the overwhelming response the appeal generated. They thanked heartily the readers of Daijiworld, who have once again extended their wholehearted support to the cause.

We at Daijiworld thank our readers for extending a helping hand to the family and giving a new lease of life to Smitha. Your good wishes, largeheartedness, moral support and prayers have once again created a miracle.

May the Almighty bless us all.

Your generosity helped them too:
