Mangalore: National Seminar on Pandita Ramabai Inaugurated at St Agnes College

Mangalore, Aug 29: A two-day national seminar on Pandita Ramabai was inaugurated at St Agnes College auditorium on Friday August 29 morning.
The seminar was organized under the aegis of Mangalore Diocesan Chair in Christianity of Mangalore University and St Agnes College. Margaret Alva, former union minister and AICC General Secretary, inaugurated the seminar.
Fr John Fernandes, professor and head of the Chair in Christianity Sr Marie Prem D’Souza, principal of the College, scholars Dr Nalini Arles and Venubai were present on the dais.
The seminar is being organized to highlight about the achievements of Pandita Ramabai, who scripted a new identity for Indian womanhood. She fought hard to lift women from the bondage of humiliating rules of widowhood, polygamy and child marriage.
Dr Nalini Arles, Dr Surendra Rao, Dr Udaykumar were the resource persons on the occasion.
The concluding session will be held at 4.30 pm on Saturday August 30.
